Thank You Poem To Pak 'n Save

Screenshot 2015-12-03 at 11.31.40 AM.png
Dear Manager

You help us out
At our school
By donating bread
Which is really cool

We use them for sandwiches
For the children who come to school with no food
It keeps the children
In a happy mood

Families take them home
At the end of the day
And when they receive it
They say “hooray”

When we come to
Pak ‘n Save
We never say thank you
Because we aren’t brave

So I hope you appreciate
Me saying this
Thank you for all your help
And your kindness.

Trapped Inside A Warehouse

WALT: write a narrative with focus on a powerful intro.

Trapped Inside The Warehouse

“La la la la la la la la ahhhhhh!” Ally gasps. “OMG. That is one beautiful dress. Mum, mum can we go to the mall? I have found this nice dress and I really want it. Please mama please.” “ Fine then, but we have to go after 7o,clock because I have an important meeting.” said her mum.

“ I’m getting a new dress, I’m getting a new dress.” happily sang Ally. “ Quickly though because it is very late and you have school tomorrow. angrily said her mum. Ally looked for the dress in all the stores until she remembered that the shop was called “ The Warehouse.” “ Which direction is the Warehouse.” “ Quickly Ally before they close the Warehouse.” Ally runs everywhere and she finally finds the Warehouse.

As soon as she got inside the Warehouse a announcement went off. “ Ladies and gentlemen the store is about to close in 5 minutes.” Ally wasn't interested in the announcement and started searching for the dress. As soon as she found it, people were closing up and locking the gates. Ally didn't know because she was putting and fitting on the dress.

Ally realized that there was no chatter in the store. She quickly got changed and went out of the dressing room. She only saw her mum but no one else. She was surprised. She saw the gates closed and no one around. Ally was nervous and started to cry. Then they realized that the Warehouse wasn't going to be opened until next Monday.

Just when they thought they were going to be trapped forever, Ally screamed “oh yeah no school tomorrow.” but as she was singing the song she saw a person. He started walking over to them and he said “Why are  you still here?” Ally realized that it was the manager of the store. Ally knew that it was time to go home.

“ Will Ally, wasn't that an adventure?” said Mum. “ Yes it was yes it was.” signed Ally, but she was happy that she had her dress that she has always wanted.

It Could Happen...

Walt: rewrite a story in 5 sentences.

It Could Happen ...

Overnight the whole world change one colour to another each year except one blue - jay bird. The girls thought the world changing colours was luck and the boys though it was neat. Scientists tried to find out why the world kept changing colours. Then the world changed blue and everyone lost interest in the bird, so they set it free. Still no one knows why the blue - jay bird did not change colour.

Length Of Chains

Length Of Chains
Walt: Arrange length in order.
Find mean, median, mode and range.
         Explain the differences in length.
Pairs
Length of Chain in centimetres
Ben and Dion
86
Wesley and Koliata
169
Lorenzo and Liam
170
Ifa and Tane
192
Shanelle and Alyssa
192
Andrea and Lana
200
Ketura and Serena
220
Stephanie and Cherish
286
Petuana and Yazmin
304
Munokoa and Samuel
320
Viliami and Howard
383
Mean = 229.272727273 cm
Rounded Off = 229.3 cm
Median = 200 cm
Mode = 192 cm
Range = 297 cm

The reasons why the shortest chain is 86 cm and the longest chain is 383 cm is because they measured their individual chain to either be thick or thin, which would make it short or long. Also they might have used the length side which would create longer chains or they used the width side which would have made smaller chains.

Food Tech - Poster

During our second to last food tech class this year, we had to create a poster. I made mine about my favourite dish out of all the classes and I did mine about a sponge cake. I listed the ingredients down and I also wrote how to do a chocolate sponge cake. We only have one class left so I hope we are going to do something fun. I can't wait to do it all again next year.

Reading Easttle

Screenshot 2015-11-17 at 11.39.09 AM.png

I received a 4p from my Reading E-Asttle. I was disappointed because I dropped from my last test. I need to work on my structure and to use important information. Though I did get a lot of strengths. I am just above the blue line which is where I am supposed to be. Next I need to work on inferences.

Tessellation

Walt: draw a tessellation pattern.

I had to create a pattern using four colours and I had to chose a design. I enjoyed it though it took a lot of my time to complete. I am hoping to do more challenging patterns.

Shape Mods

Walt: revise rotation, reflection and translation.

In this game I had to get the green triangle to the red triangle. It was hard in the beginning but now I know how to do it. I got up to level 11 and there was 18 levels. I had difficulties with rotation because I don’t know what degree to set it to. I need to try and get all the way up to level 18 and try to get everything correct.

The All Blacks In Victoria Park

Yesterday the 4th of November 2015, the All Blacks had a parade in Victoria Park. As it was a school day, I was not allowed to go and meet the All Blacks. Next time it should be held during the weekend or after school hours. Congratulations All Blacks for winning us another RWC.

RWC Final Rm 11 - Double Bar Graph

Screenshot 2015-11-02 at 9.42.02 AM.png
Walt: use online tools to draw a double bar graph.
Watched:                       Didn’t Watch:
B: 10                              B: 3
G: 5                                G: 7

I created my own double bar graph to see how many students in my class watched and didn't watch the RWC final. We collected the data with the show of hands. I think that most girls didn't watch the game because they weren't interested in rugby, didn’t have sky or didn't wake up early enough in the morning to watch the game. On Friday we made a prediction and Robin was the closest with 32 - 17 as the final score was 34 - 17.

RWC Finals: All Blacks vs Australia.

I believe that the All Blacks will win the RWC for 2015. I bet that the star player from the All Blacks will be Daniel Carter. I predict the score will be 27 - 25. All Blacks would get 4 tries, 2 missed conversions and 1 penalty kick. I wish the All Blacks good luck and all the best for this Sundays game. Go The ALL BLACKS!

My result for my basic facts test was 698. I improved because last term I got 694. I improved because I learnt how to convert fractions into decimals and into percentages during last term. I am at the national standard for my year level. My next learning steps is to practice for my next e asttle test.  I want to achieve a 5a in the e asttle test.

Meeting The Silver Ferns

13th of October we were invited to St kentigerns School to meet the Silver Ferns. There were a  number of schools that were there too. We played a interesting game called "shots up" which you have to pose like you are going to shoot a netball in the hoop when someone says shots up. If you lose balance or are not facing the netball hoop then you are out. I had a fun day there and I am hoping that I could maybe go again. There was a school from Rotorua who also came up to Auckland to meet the Silver Ferns.

Thank You Letter To Mrs Parkes

25/09/15
Glen Innes School
Room 11

Dear Mrs Parkes

As you have helped us over the year, I have learnt more. Writing a descriptive paragraph has been easier for me since  the beginning of this year. Starting the descriptive paragraph before the introduction was a great tip.

The 4 x 4 poem was interesting and fun. The difficult part for me was finding the correct word to contribute as the adverb. It was new for me and I enjoy learning new things. As you should know, we created a comic strip about our difficulties on writing a 4 x 4 poem and posted it on our blog.

When we did our combined story about the attributes, I now understand what some of the attributes mean. Like courteous, it means being polite, using your manners and listening to others.

The diamante poem was very easy to do. Our diamante poem was about the black piranha and I found it easy to find the nouns, adjectives and adverbs. I didn’t complete the bottom half of my diamante poem because I had to edit our movie for Manaiakalani.

I would just like to say thank you for all the suggestions that you have given us to improve on our writing, especially descriptive writing. I still need help on descriptive paragraphs because I do not include the senses.

Yours sincerely
Shanelle

Attributes ( Yazmin, Shanelle and Andrea.)

Walt: write collaboratively.

Purpose: To improve my behaviour to make me more acceptable in society.

Topic: While planting fruit trees at school three friends find an old dirty lamp. They decided to wipe the dirt off the lamp when suddenly a genie appeared and promised to grant them three wishes. Each friend was allowed one wish.

“Wishes!” they all gasped. Shanelle shooted her hand in the air because she wanted to go first. “Please! Please! Can I go first?” Shanelle asked. Andrea and Yazmin agreed so that they had time to think of their own wish.

Shanelle wished:
“I wish to be kind. I always listen when others are having their turn to speak. I raise my hand instead of interrupting someone. Instead of saying “ you made us lose.” I always say “that’s okay” or “ just try harder next time.” If I treat people kindly then I will be treated kindly as well. At times I do get angry and I won’t be that kind but I try to improve on that. To improve I will try not to get upset at times so that everyday is a calm and relaxed. I should try and take deep breaths to calm myself down.”

Shanelle finished her wish and next was Andrea. She tightly shut her eyes and wished;
“If I had one wish, I would wish for everyone to be candid like me. I have always had candid conversations with my teacher, friends and family. I am honest and straightforward with whoever I speak to. Whenever I get the chance to speak to a visitor in our classroom, our discussion is mostly truthful. Most of my conversations have been direct. Not only at home and at school, but also in the community.  I am still getting used to having candid conversations with other people and even some students at my school. Sometimes, I lie to people to protect the people I care about. So I am trying to improve on this.”

Then it was Yazmin’s turn.
Yazmin wished:
“I wish to be courteous.I want to listen to my friends, family and elders while they are explaining something. I also want to let my friends or anybody else go first before I do. I love to use my manners to others. I want to show people how polite I am. I want to help my mum or dad with their chores from putting the groceries away to washing the dishes. While on the other hand I’m really clumsy/lazy so I want to try and improve my weaknesses. I will try and cope with all my work and chores.”

The genie had granted their wishes and everyone’s behaviour had changed. The genie disappeared with a snap of his fingers and as for the three best friends, they travelled the globe to discover more lamps and genies.

Screenshot 2015-09-07 at 8.58.57 AM.png

Walt: study my easttle results.

This is my maths Easttle results for term 3. I feel great that I have a 5b but that is the same result that I got in my last test. I need to work on devising a strategy to solve a fraction number problem and to explain the meaning of the digits in any whole number. I will do exercises and activities to help me. I’m hoping to achieve my goal of getting a 5a.

New Flag For New Zealand

Screenshot 2015-09-03 at 11.12.09 AM.png

I like the top right flag because it has very nice colours and it is similar to our original flag. It is similar to our original flag because of the four stars. The flag is also very bright. This flag represents New Zealand because it has the silver fern.

Solving Decimal Problems

Screenshot 2015-09-01 at 9.50.45 AM.png
Walt: solve decimal problems.

In this maths game I had to solve each decimal problem. I needed to know how to subtract and add decimals. It was easy except for question four. My answer was 4.25 secs but that wasn’t correct. Next time I would like to try question four again.

Converting Fractions To Decimals

Screenshot 2015-08-31 at 10.03.27 AM.png
Walt: convert fractions to decimals.

In this game we have to convert the fractions given to the correct decimal. I needed to know fractions and decimals really well. This was easy because I already knew how to convert fractions to decimals. Next time I would like to do more complex fraction problems.

Milo Cup

Walt: design our own New Zealand Milo mug.

We had to draw 4/5 designs onto a piece of paper and they had to have a New Zealand flavour. Then we had to select one. Then we outlined it onto a milo mug using a pencil. We then used a marker to darken the outline to make it visible.

Hockey With Lydia

FullSizeRender.jpg

We had hockey training with our coach Lydia. We had to bend our knees so we don't hurt our back. She taught some safety rules and they were to keep the bat below our knees and not to swing it around or it might hurt somebody in the face. We learnt how to hold the bat and we learnt how to move and control the bat with our hockey stick. She showed a demonstration about how to control the ball and we had to use the flat side of the bat.

Combined Story

Walt: write a combined story.

Pythons Taking Action

African pythons are known to be poisonous and very deadly, they also can have rapid speed on their prey. African pythons obviously live in Africa near the river side where most animals live. The python will eat any animal that it finds. They have scales as much as a fish, they also are really long. African pythons slither fast but quietly because they do not want their prey to notice them.

When python's search for its prey they go to the river as that is where all animals go to drink water. As the python soon reached the water it saw a hippo in the water and hippos are the most deadliest animals. Slithering out of the water it camouflages itself to hide away from the hippo. The python camouflaged the whole night waiting patiently for the hippo to go away.

As the night goes by, the hippo falls asleep. Thats when the python takes action. As midday comes by, it got ready for his ambush. When the springbok was in place it  waited for the correct timing and exploded out of the water for its jaw open wide. Squeezing the springbok and coiling around it the python soon swallowed it whole.

Pythons don’t need to eat for another whole year because the springboks are really huge. The more the pythons eat the longer they can survive without food. As soon as the year goes by the pythons start to hunt for food again. Pythons can also stay underwater for 15 minutes, if they need to breathe they will only put their nostrils out of the water.
